“In many ways Allana is reminiscent of the great singers of the past. What is not redolent of past singers, however, is her preparedness to tackle adventurous modern projects.” – Gig review, the Creative Jazz Club (2013)
Allana Goldsmith is a rare gem, the kind of artist one hears for the first time and is immediately captivated.
Allana has featured at many of the major festivals around the country, including most recently at the Waiheke International Festival (2017), Tauranga National Jazz Festival in 2014, Queenstown Jazz Festival in 2015, and Wellington and Auckland Matariki Festivals in 2014-2017.
At the age of 19 Allana was taken under the wing of some of the great jazz musicians of New Zealand. This is learning the old school way, not from a book or sitting in a classroom, but with mentors, handing down their wisdom and experience over a long period of time. Allana has been privileged to work with some of Aotearoa’s finest jazz musicians. Allana says, “These gentlemen were highly instrumental in furthering my jazz education.”
Although Allana has been singing Jazz for over 10yrs, she completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in 2016 majoring in jazz vocal performance with NZ School of Music, and she is currently undertaking her honours year at The University of Auckland. Allana also has a number of projects on the go in many different bands and genre of music - including soul and post-modern jukebox.
About the SNH Trio
Dixon Nacey is a jazz guitarist, composer and producer who has performed as both leader and sideman, with many great NZ and international jazz artists. He also teaches jazz students at Auckland, Massey and Christchurch Universities and runs a successful jazz guitar tutorial website.
Kevin Haines has been playing the double bass for about 57 years. In that time he has been able to play with the cream of the New Zealand Jazz musicians and also as a sideman with some of the great American players. He has seen the growth of his two sons, Nathan and Joel as fine musicians in their own right and currently teaches at Auckland University in the Jazz course
Ron Samsom is a drummer and composer based in Aotearoa. He is also the co-ordinator of jazz performance at the University of Auckland. He owns far too much windsurfing equipment and 5 drum sets…most surprisingly; he gets time to use all of it.
Description: Female vocalist with live guitar, bass and drums. Additional musicians such as saxophone also available.
